Ovechkin almost hit by falling glass during Baltimore Hockey Classic (Video)

When the Caps players came off the ice after morning skate yesterday in Baltimore, they had concerns about the questionable ice conditions. It turns out that the ice conditions weren’t the only thing about the arena that were questionable.

During the second period of the Baltimore Hockey Classic, Alex Ovechkin hit the boards, causing the glass to pop out and break on the ice. After the game game, a shaken Ovechkin addressed the situation, calling it “scary.”

“First five minutes [the ice] is well, but after it’s kind of, you can’t hold the puck, you can’t shoot it and you’re afraid to go to the boards because it’s too dangerous out there,” he said. “I don’t know. I just try to get the hit and I miss it, I hit the glass and it just crashes. I don’t know if I’m too strong or glass not that strong.”

You can see the incident at the one-minute mark of the video below. It wasn’t a big hit, and Ovechkin doesn’t even seem to come in contact with the actual glass before it popped out and broke on the ice.

“Watching the replay, that was very scary,” Caps Coach Adam Oates said, via NESN. “I think that’s what happens when you don’t play in a building for a while. But it didn’t happen again, so good for that.”

Silver linings, I guess.
