Brooks Laich took a trip to Tysons Corner for some early holiday shopping, and made a strong case for Uncle of the Year in the process.

The niece and two nephews mentioned are Rhett, Kalli and Ariel, and clearly the adoration is mutual. So much so that two-and-a-half-year old Rhett dressed as Laich for Halloween, seen here in a photo tweeted by Laich’s sister.
“She told me about a month before that that Rhett was gonna be me for Halloween,” Laich told me. “And then she sent me a picture and it was really cool. It was flattering. It’s a pretty neat feeling for me.”
The youngster is so enamored that he can pick out his uniformed uncle in a lineup.
“Just before [Halloween], my sister came to the game in Edmonton and took a picture of me in the starting lineup and the next morning, she printed it out and gave it to Rhett, and he was holding it with a big smile on his face,” said a proud Laich. “She sent me that in a text.”
Laich said the toddler is a hockey player in training, and is already showing signs he’ll take after his uncle.
“He loves hockey,” Laich said. “He’s got the hockey stick going in the morning when he wakes up until he goes to bed at night, all over the house. I can’t wait until he’s old enough to get him on skates. I can’t wait until he’s old enough to have him here on the ice after practice and in the locker room. I think it’s just awesome.”
Martin Erat’s son recently visited the Caps locker room and made an on-ice appearance. I say we get these two together for the most adorable faceoff in hockey history.
