As Redskins fans spend most of their available sports time debating whom the Redskins should hire as their next head coach, some analysts continue to insist that Mike Shanahan could, or might, or should return to the Redskins as head coach in 2013. Add Bill Cowher to that list.
“I think Mike Shanahan comes back, and makes a change of coordinators,” Cowher said during CBS Sports’s “The NFL Today” Sunday morning.
I mean, maybe. But good luck selling that one to the fan base.
Meanwhile, Shanahan is rapidly approaching the Zorn/Spurrier benchmark. With a loss against the Giants on Sunday, Shanahan’s four-year record in Washington would be 24-40, giving him exactly the same winning percentage as Zorn and Spurrier, who both went 12-20.
TWEET OF THE WEEKEND
I’m defining “weekend” loosely here. But this is amazing.

COWBOYS FANS IN PACKERS TENT
I don’t even know what to do with this, but I was at FedEx Field Sunday morning, and saw five Cowboys fans tailgating in a Packers tent at a Redskins game.
WISE CALLED IT
No one — and I mean no one — knows how to predict the ending of a D.C. sports event better than Mike Wise. In fairness, if I live tweeted every single thought that flitted through my mind during a game, I would often be wrong. Also, I love Mike. This is all love.
I still think this is going to be a shootout — a 45-42 barnburner for the title of Dysfunctional Bowl Champion. — Mike Wise (@MikeWiseguy) December 22, 2013
For the second year in a row, Washington is going to have a lot to do with ending Dallas’ season. Cowboys are deplorable. — Mike Wise (@MikeWiseguy) December 22, 2013
I think Washington wins this going away now. — Mike Wise (@MikeWiseguy) December 22, 2013
LAKOTA POPCORN AT FEDEX FIELD?
I would hope you’ve already read the Theresa Vargas and Liz Clarke story on Dan Snyder’s developing strategy concerning Native Americans and his football team. One excerpt:
Team officials would not say what might result from recent trips to Native American areas, but sources with knowledge of the situation say at least two things are in the works: a charity aimed at the problems of Native Americans and an arrangement for Lakota Foods in South Dakota to provide popcorn at the games.
MEDIA QUESTION OF THE DAY
Question to Santana Moss after the game: “Pierre, what was it like to get the record?” Moss’ response: “Wrong guy.” Classic.

Don’t know what to do with this, either. This Redskins fan apparently was not making a political or philosophical statement by wearing his Haynesworth jersey while hanging out with Cowboys fans. He was just wearing a jersey.
MORE ON BRILES
More on the Art Briles possibility, via John Keim of ESPN:
I’ve said it before and will say it again: That would be a major risk and put too much pressure on Griffin. One respected veteran, who likes Griffin, said of that possibility, “It would be bad for him and it would be bad for the locker room. It would put him in a tight spot.” Just because of the perception players would have that Griffin played a role in Shanahan’s ouster in order to get his college coach hired. Not a good look.
