Steve Czaban signs extension at ESPN 980

Yet more sports-radio news: ESPN 980′s Steve Czaban, the longtime co-host of that station’s afternoon drive show, has signed a three-year extension, the network announced on Monday. Czaban was paired with Andy Pollin on “The Sports Reporters” for more than a decade; the station paired him with Chris Cooley and Al Galdi on “The Drive” last summer.

“Czabe is integral to the success of our station,” VP of Programming Chuck Sapienza said in a release. “We look forward to three additional years of Czabe, Cooley and Galdi.”

In the release, Czaban said he signed the extension only “after Bruce Allen rejected my offer to coach special teams.” Couldn’t have been much worse, anyhow.

VENDING MACHINES WITH BEER

This isn’t really about local sports, unless the fact that these Irish vending machines filled with delicious beer (and Heineken) were spotted by former D.C. United staffer Kyle Sheldon. But golly.

Also, I’m really getting bummed out lately by all the local sports fans out there convinced that my employer is out to get them and their teams. We’re not! We want everyone to be happy! Sometimes circumstances are not happy! When that happens, we’ll show you photos of beer in vending machines!

VENDING MACHINES WITH BURRITOS

And also photos of burritos in vending machines! How could you think we want you to be unhappy when we bring you images like these?!?!

JENKINS ON RGIII

Plus anonymously sourced stories about the Redskins star player allegedly bragging about having undue influence over ownership!?!?! Same thing, right? This is from Sally Jenkins’s column in Tuesday’s paper, which you’ve already read, but whatever.

Any head coaching candidate will be hesitant about working with a player whose rampant owner-empowered entitlement was clearly part of the team’s problem this season. Once, Griffin was an immensely likable, unpretentious kid who was wide open to collaboration. But according to insiders, Griffin’s public campaign to have the offense altered for him was just the tip of his egotism in his second year. Behind closed doors, Griffin had fierce finger-pointing tensions with his wide receivers, and he bragged to teammates that he could procure favors from the owner and influence the franchise’s direction.

Ask yourself: would you rather have access, right this second, to one vending machine with beer, another vending machine with burritos, and that paragraph being read over loudspeakers? Or none of the above. I think it’s a tough call. Probably would need to know the prices first.

AMAZING OLD TWEET I JUST DISCOVERED

This was from 2010. I guess Bill Romanowski’s credibility may have just suffered a slight hit.

SAD JAN VESELY NEWS

Remember the model-type basketball-playing girlfriend who Jan Vesely famously kissed the night he was drafted by the Wizards? Truth About it reports — via a translation of Eva Kodouskova’s Facebook page — that the two Czech ballers are no longer an item. She will apparently remain in Washington though, at least for now.
