Jay Gruden was at the Wizards game on Saturday night, in baseline seats alongside his son, Bruce Allen and Allen’s two children. After an appearance on jumbo screen announcing his presence, Gruden was mobbed by fans wanting to say hello, and get pictures with the new Redskins coach. Gruden obliged and then made an escape to Ted Leonsis’s box to finish watching the game in peace.
It’s easy to see why Gruden is already a fan favorite. He already seems to be more accessible and approachable than the previous coaching regime was, and his willingness to embrace all things Washington is endearing. Take, for instance, his performance of the John Wall dance during his moment on the big screen.
“Hey, Dad. You should do the John Wall dance. People will love it.”
Here’s the video of his screen appearance. He also chatted with Monumental’s Casey Phillips about getting fans to support all of the local sports franchises. That interview is here.
