Wizards offer Valentine’s Day advice

February 14, 2014

One of the best single quotes I’ve ever gotten from an athlete was a few years ago when I asked some of the Wizards players to give fans some Valentine’s Day advice.

“I’m the wrong person to talk to about Valentine’s Day,” Jordan Crawford told me. “I usually get rid of my shorties around now.”

Monumental asked some current Wizards for Valentine’s Day advice. Unfortunately no one they asked mentioned any shorties.

Bradley Beal: “My Valentine’s Day advice: buy your girls some flowers. All women love flowers for some odd reason. Chocolate, fruit and just show her some love and affection, I guess.”

Kevin Seraphin: “I’m thinking something simple, but classy,  you know? If you go to a nice restaurant, stuff like that. It depends on where you live. If I was in Paris, the Eiffel Tower and stuff like that. You just spend some time with your girl.”

Garrett Temple: “Advice for Valentine’s Day, I’m not a hopeless romantic, so they really shouldn’t be coming to me. Plus, I’m single, so I don’t really have certain plans for certain someones on Valentines Day. I’m assuming flowers and candy are still in. Maybe the way you present them, or something that you can get different. But honestly, Valentine’s Day is obviously a holiday for women. Guys really don’t care. You know, you should understand your woman, understand what she likes and what she doesn’t like and try to cater to her needs.”

Last year I got some international Valentine’s Day sentiments. A trip down that romantic memory lane is here.

Whatever your plan is for tonight, enjoy. As for me, our household tradition is pizza from Vace and NBA-watching. It’s no Eiffel Tower, but I think Garrett Temple would approve.
