Andre Miller recruited to Wizards by Al Harrington and Nene

February 27

Andre Miller has been with the Wizards just a week, but it seems that his journey here began much earlier this month after a text conversation with Al Harrington.

“I texted Al Harrington a few weeks before this all happened and he was like: ‘Dre, you should try and get moved here. It’s a good organization,’” Miller told Grant and Danny on 106.7 The Fan on Wednesday. “And me having a relationship with the coaching staff, Randy Wittman being my rookie coach, it’s kinda easy to try to make a push to get here.”

Once the trade had been announced, Nene took over the recruiting duties.

“He’s a tough guy to please,” Miller said of Nene, his former and now current teammate.  “And when he’s telling me how happy he was in this situation and how he’s enjoying his time here, it made me feel comfortable. Me and Nene obviously have a lot of history and I know the ins and outs of how he thinks a little bit. Like I said, it’s a good group, no big egos and unfortunately he went down but he’ll get an opportunity to come back and play.”

And just for good measure, John Wall and Bradley Beal solidified Miller’s new love affair with Washington.

“Just coming here, just observing the first couple days you kinda have a certain perception of players from a distance and then you get here and you’re like, ‘Okay, they’re pretty serious about this game,’ ” said Miller.  “And that’s pretty much how I came in. I was like, ‘Okay, let me see how John Wall is and how Bradley Beal are.’ And they’re smart. They’re beyond their years. There’s not big egos in the locker room and that helps. To see a young guard early in his career with the IQ and him just stepping into a leadership role, it’s kinda fun to be around.”
