MASN announced on Wednesday that MASNSports.com beat reporter Dan Kolko will serve as the network’s sideline reporter for Nats games this season.

Kolko becomes the fourth Nats sideline reporter in four years. Debbi Taylor first served in the job; Kristina Akra took over in April of 2012, and Julie Alexandria followed in April of 2013. That means the Nats have had more sideline reporters than managers in recent seasons.

Kolko, unlike his most recent predecessors, got a chance to break in during a spring training game, Wednesday’s meeting with the Astros. (Last season, the team spent the first two weeks of the season without a sideline reporter.)

“And we’d like to welcome a new member of our broadcast crew,” play-by-play man Bob Carpenter said during the second inning. “We all know him, you know him very well back home. Folks, Dan Kolko down by the dugout. It’s all yours buddy.”

Kolko then interviewed Scott Hairston; “Thank you Dan Kolko,” Carpenter said. “And again, welcome to the squad.”

Kolko is on his third season covering the Nats; he previously covered the Ravens for MASNSports.com, and has also worked at Comcast SportsNet. Like all great reporters, he attended the University of Delaware.
