The results on the field weren’t what the Nats would have wanted on Friday: two runners thrown out trying to steal in two different run-downs, a runner thrown out trying to score, an inside-the-park home run that became a ground-rule double on replay, an eighth-inning would-be rally crushed by three straight strikeouts, and a 2-1 loss to the rival Braves.
The results off the field? Well, I did a lot of wandering and this is what I saw: There were a lot of lines, a lot of kids, a lot of smiles, a lot of people in Nats red, a smaller amount of people in Braves blue, a lot of crowds, a lot of people in work clothes who must have been feeling ill around noon, a lot of bottlenecks in the concourses but not a lot of complaints, a lot of waiting, and a lot of empty beer bottles and discarded peanut bags.
There were also a lot of people who sent me memorable images from a home opener. Here were some of them.
