If you’re like me, you were watching Tuesday night’s Nats game a bit closer than usual, especially during the top half of innings, and especially peeking toward the home team’s left fielder.
That left fielder — erstwhile brilliant third baseman Ryan Zimmerman — finally got his first chance in the top of the fourth, and he didn’t disappoint. It was a routine play, and Zimmerman made it routinely.
Chase Utley flares to left, and Ryan Zimmerman makes a running catch. Not the easiest read off a left-handed bat. Zimmerman was smooth.— Adam Kilgore (@AdamKilgoreWP) June 4, 2014
There were multiple replays, one showing Zimmerman closing his eyes just after making the grab.
More important than the catch, probably, was Zimmerman’s mashed double in his first at-bat. Or his RBI double in the fifth inning. But there will be more replays of the catch.
