The Redskins have, for several years, asked fans to print out invitations (and submit some personal information) before going to free training camp sessions, although such invitations haven’t actually been necessary for entrance.
The situation has changed slightly this season. The team announced on Friday that this summer — “in response to a record number of Training Camp fan invitation registrations” — fans will need to enter and win a ticket lottery to gain entrance to Fan Appreciation Day on Aug. 2 and the three joint practice sessions with the New England Patriots on Aug. 4, 5 and 6.
Fan Appreciation Day is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.; the Aug. 4 and Aug. 6 open practices are scheduled for 8:35 a.m., and the Aug. 5 practice is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. The Redskins are urging fans to go here to register, although the actual registration page is here, through CSN Washington’s site. Yes, the box to join the season ticket wait list remains automatically checked.
Other training camp practices do not require passes, although the Redskins continue to urge fans to register anyhow.
Large crowds flocked to last year’s training camp, the first at the team’s new Richmond facility; “a team-reported 25,222 fans attended Fan Appreciation Day, overwhelming the facility and resulting in overflowing portable restrooms by the end of the session,” the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
The deadline for entry is July 25 at noon; winners will receive an e-mail the following day with “a link to a printable ticket with a unique bar code.” The team said this system will be automated and random, and “based on NFL best practices.” Fans can only enter once for each practice session, and each randomly selected winner will get four passes for the day’s practice that they win.
The passes are free, but are non-transferrable. Fans can also enter “by mailing a 3×5 card with name, address, phone number and e-mail address to Redskins Training Camp Lottery at 21300 Redskin Park Drive, Ashburn, VA 20147,” the team announced.
