Patriots and Redskins Web sites have slightly different takes on joint practice

(By John McDonnell/The Washington Post)

“It is almost better to tell your own lies than someone else’s truth,” Dostoevsky wrote in “Crime and Punishment.” “In the first case you are a man, in the second, you are no better than a parrot.”

Which brings us to Monday’s joint practice between the Patriots and the Redskins. The practice was covered by the Web sites of both teams. They seemed to have slightly different versions of what happened, though. All the authors were men; none were parrots.

Redskins.com: Redskins’ Defense Gets Heavy Dose Of Hurry Up

Patriots.com: Tom Brady and the Patriots offense had little trouble ripping through the Washington defense in the first of three days of joint practices with the Redskins.

Redskins.com: Chalk it up to a learning experience.

Patriots.com: New England appeared the far better team on both sides of the ball as the Patriots got things going in Richmond practice action against the Redskins.

Redskins.com: Both the Washington offense and defense had its successes and its struggles.

Patriots.com: [Tom Brady] showed himself easily the best quarterback on the field. He led the New England first unit in a variety of segments against the top Washington defense and looked poised, accurate and decisive.

Redskins.com: It didn’t take long into Monday’s session for [Ryan] Kerrigan and the rest of the first-team defense to see exactly why Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will be enshrined in Canton, Ohio, when his playing days are over. Brady – wearing a red No. 12 practice jersey – had command of an extremely efficient hurry-up offensive attack on Monday, as the Redskins at times found themselves scrambling to catch up.

Patriots.com: By comparison young star Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III looked indecisive, inaccurate and pulled the ball down too many times in the face of oncoming pressure from the Patriots front.

Redskins.com: “Anytime you get a chance to go against a different defense you learn a lot – their different coverages, different fronts – from an offensive perspective,” Gruden said.

Patriots.com: While Brady was showing his veteran skills against the Redskins defense, New England’s own defensive unit was making like difficult on RGIII and the rest of Jay Gruden’s Washington attack. Vince Wilfork was a formidable force up the middle against the run, while Dont’a Hightower and the linebackers got involved with the pass rush with some regularity.

Redskins.com: Offensively, Gruden commended his team’s running game – which is not surprising, considering the Redskins have had a Top-5 rushing unit in the NFL the past couple seasons, and return most of the same pieces this year.

Patriots.com: As far as a first taste of competition against a different team in an unfamiliar environment, Bill Belichick’s squad put forth an impressive opening effort.

Redskins.com: With the Patriots in town for practice, Monday’s morning session certainly had a different vibe attached to it.
