Early in this baseball season, I decided The Post should collect the beer lists of every team in Major League Baseball.
This turned out to be a sizable undertaking, requiring a lot of grunt work by a lot of people other than me.
But it resulted in a pretty great interactive graphic that shows you the beer lists of every team in Major League Baseball, at least as of the time they sent us their beer lists.
I wrote a story-type thing to go along with the graphic, highlighting some of the best options out there. And there are a lot. To give just one example, these are the special Friday night tappings the Reds have had this season:
Great Lakes Spacewalker, The Deuce Hopped-Up Brown Ale, Founders Rübæus, Unita Brewing Detour, Epic Escape to Colorado, New Holland Palelooza Michigan Pale Ale, Blank Slate Shroominus, Upland Vinyl Tap Rye Pale Ale, Lagunitas Brewing Undercover Investigation Shut-down, Listerman’s Cincinnati Red Ale, West 6′th Lemongrass American Wheat.
To give another, the Padres have 11 beers that get scores of at least 90 on Beer Advocate, including Ballast Point’s Sculpin IPA, Stone’s Ruination IPA and Arrogant Bastard Ale, and Green Flash’s West Coast IPA.
To give one more, in Seattle, craft beer product — including excellent bombers from places like Pyramid, Oskar Blues, No-Li and Rogue — outsell the regular-old domestics by something like 4-to-1.
But where there is good, there is also bad. And our beer rating system — designed by graphics editor Kevin Schaul — found the worst beer selection in Major League Baseball at Yankees Stadium.
Here was the Yankees beer list, as provided by the team:
Amstel, Becks, Budweiser, Bud Black Crown, Bud Light, Bud Light Lime, Bud Light Platinum, Bud Lime-A-Rita, Bud Mango-Rita, Batch 19, Becks, Blue Moon, Blue Moon Seasonal, Coors Light, Corona Light, Dos Equis, Goose Island, Goose Island 312, Goose Island Honkers, Guinness, Guinness Black Lager, Heineken, Heineken Light, Hoegaarden, Kirin Ichiban, Leinenkugel, Magic Hat #9, Michelob Ultra, Miller Lite, Modelo, Newcastle, O’Doul’s, Presidente, Red Bridge, Redds Apple Ale, Shock Top, Shock Top Apple, Shock Top Lemonade, Smithwick’s, Stella Artois and Yuengling.
It’s a horror show. It’s the first time in my life I’ve ever felt truly sorry for Yankees fans. It’ll get better, Yankees fans.
Anyhow, poke around our graphic and see what else is cool.
(Thanks to Kevin and Kelyn Soong for doing all the work.)
