Desi Deschaine, communications director for D.C. council member Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) has died after apparently drowning in Baltimore's Inner Harbor over the weekend, Evans said.
"I am very sad as I'm sure you all are,'' Evans said during the Council's regularly scheduled breakfast meeting this morning. Council members paused for a moment of silence in remembrance of the 30-year-old aide who was active in local Democratic Party circles.
Friends feared the worse after Deschaine disappeared following a boating party in Baltimore on Sunday. He was reported missing later that evening.
Baltimore Police said this morning they found a body floating not far from where Deschaine was last seen, but have not yet identified the person. Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the body had no signs of foul play.
Evans received confirmation that the body was Deschaine's from Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon (D).
Deschaine, who graduated from Catholic University in 2001 with a degree in International Politics, was originally from Connecticut. Friends said his parents arrived in the area last night.
Deschaine became Evans' communication director last November. Prior to that he worked as head of External Relations for the Washington National Opera, according to his Facebook profile.
