Council member Yvette M. Alexander (D-Ward 7) is asking D.C. Auditor Deborah Nichols to conduct an audit of the nonprofit Peaceoholics - the group co-founded by Ronald Moten, who said he stepped down from his duties to help Mayor Adrian M. Fenty's campaign.
Alexander said she is growing increasingly concerned about the city funds being paid to the organization and whether Moten is violating federal laws that limit the political activity of nonprofits. "I'm confused about Moten's role with Peaceoholics. He's actively campaigning for the mayor," she said.
Moten has said he is no longer a salaried director and now serves on the Peaceoholics board without compensation. But when recent media reports surfaced about whether the city was trying to pay Peaceoholics for services, Moten was outspoken on the issue.
Alexander asked Nichols in a letter last week to give her a preliminary report by Sept. 3.
