D.C. Council member Marion Barry (D-Ward 8) remains hospitalized in intensive care at Howard University Hospital.
Barry, who underwent a kidney transplant in February, was admitted to the hospital early Tuesday for dehydration. His condition was initially described as stable, but he was transferred to the intensive care unit Tuesday night.
Natalie Williams, a Barry spokeswoman, said Barry is now being treated for an infection but the prognosis is good.
"He is doing fine," Williams said of the 73-year-old former mayor. "They moved him to ICU just to treat it more aggressively."
