President Bill Clinton's former political director will be chairing Bryan Weaver's campaign for an at-large seat on the D.C. Council, the Weaver campaign announced Thursday.
Minyon Moore, who served in the Clinton White House from 1997 through 2000, will oversee Weaver's fund-raising and campaign strategy heading into the April 26 special election.
Weaver was an unsuccessful candidate last year against Ward 1 Council member Jim Graham (D) in the September Democratic primary. Although he's relatively unknown citywide, the Democrat is looking to make inroads with progressive voters.
Weaver, who was lured into the race by bloggers and liberal activists on Twitter, is competing in what will likely be a crowded field of challengers looking to unseat interim member Council Sekou Biddle (D).
In a statement, Weaver said he has known Moore for several years. In the 1980s, Moore worked on both Jesse Jackson's and former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis's presidential campaigns, both of which were unsuccessful. She then went to work for the Democratic National Committee, eventually becoming national political director during Clinton's 1996 bid for reelection.
Following that election, Moore went to work in the White House, serving first as the deputy political director and then as political director. She currently works for the Dewey Square Group.
"I have worked with Minyon through the years, and I have tremendous admiration for her on a personal level," Weaver said. "I look forward to her counsel during my campaign."
