Updated: As it turns out, Saturday's scheduled conversation with Council Member Mary M. Cheh at the Firehook Bakery is one of Cheh's occassional conversations shes hosts with constituents. (The D.C. Wire had incorrectly gave the impression that The Coalition to Repair and Reopen Klingle Road was holding the event.)
It turns out that The coalition is trying to make the most of the Cheh gathering by inviting Klingle Road supporters to attend and let Cheh know how they feel about her efforts to keep the road closed.
Those who have followed the long and winding debate on Klingle Road know that it was Cheh (D-Ward 3) who squashed plans to reopen the road recently, after the Council had voted to reopen the small stretch of road in Northwest Washington. But Cheh, a strong environmentalist, argued that the road needed to remain closed for green space, which, shall we say, annoyed Council Member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) and a lot of other Klingle Road supporters.
Cheh may find herself with some explaining to do this Saturday at the bakery at 3411 Connecticut Avenue NW, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
As the Klingle Road group's announcement says: "Cheh decided for all of us that Klingle Road was no longer necessary. Here's your chance to tell her what you think about Klingle Road."
