City opens pools Thursday to help residents cool off

Seven public outdoor pools will open at 4 p.m. Thursday as the District tries to find a way to help residents beat the heat.

The District’s outdoor pools opened Memorial Day weekend but were scheduled to only operate on weekends until after public school ends June 20.

The extraordinary heat spurred city government to switch gears. For four hours Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., residents can take a dip at the following pools: Banneker Recreation Center pool in Ward 1, Jelleff Recreation Center pool in Ward 2, Upshur Recreation Center pool in Ward 4, Harry Thomas Recreation Center pool in Ward 5, Randall pool in Ward 6, Fort Dupont pool in Ward 7 and Anacostia pool in Ward 8.
