The District of Columbia launches its controversial camera network today. The program will link thousands of cameras under one roof. Cameras from public housing, schools, traffic and government buildings will feed into one central system.
Some see it as a cutting-edge way to battle crime and deal with homeland security. Others, including Council Members such as Phil Mendelson (D-At Large), see it as one more infringement on privacy and civil liberties and believe the system is being rushed into place far too quickly.
