Fenty backs Gray but supports 'democratic process'

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty is still behind Democratic nominee Vincent C. Gray, who beat him in the primary in September.

But the mayor, who often talks about the power of voters, also is not quelling the spirited write-in campaign that is supporting him. D.C. Wire asked Mafara Hobson, the mayor's spokeswoman, if he would step back into office if elected.

"The residents have spoken, selecting Vincent Gray as presumptive Mayor of the District. Mayor Fenty supports both the democratic process and the democratic mayor-elect," Hobson wrote in an e-mail.
