Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) officially endorsed Vincent C. Gray in the mayor's race at a unity breakfast Thursday morning hosted by the D.C. Democratic Committee, telling about 150 party activists that Gray will be a great mayor.
"As a resident, I look forward to having Vince Gray as my mayor," Fenty said, according to David Meadows, executive of the D.C. Democratic State Committee.
Fenty, who lost to Gray in Tuesday's primary, told the activists they "are going to love Vince" and "love working" with him, Meadows said.
According to a posting on the party's twitter account, Fenty and Gray embraced and raised their hands together in the air in a show of harmony.
The event, at Israel Baptist Church in Northeast, attracted numerous local politicians and activists, including most council members and Del Eleanor Holmes Norton. Gray also spoke.
