To cap off his year-long bid for reelection, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty is throwing a big event with go-go stars Monday evening.
Fenty and Ronald Moten, a friend and adviser of the mayor's, will be hosting the go-go event from 4 to 8 p.m. at Allan Chapel AME Church on Alabama Avenue SE. Moten said in a statement that 500 to 1,000 supporters are expected.
Fenty, who has made efforts to reach out to the go-go crowd a central tenent of his campaign, will be endorsed by a number of artists, including Chi Ali from Shuttle Thoughts, Buggs and the Junkyard Band and Bo and Sweets from TCB.
Although D.C. Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray is widely expected to win Ward 8, Fenty's efforts to reach out to younger voters through go-go music could help him keep his opponent's margins in check. The timing of Fenty's event also means that parts of it could be broadcast live on 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts.
Gray is scheduled to conclude his campaign at the Waterside Safeway in Ward 6, where he plans to canvass for votes starting at 4:30 p.m.
