With gas prices soaring, Mayor Fenty has traded in his fuel-guzzling sport utility vehicle for an efficient Smart Car convertible, as WTOP reported He drove it to his news conference at an elementary school in Northeast this morning, where he was mobbed by the media. In fact, his announcement of a summer "buff and scrub" program for the schools was overshadowed by the car.
As you can see below, WRC Ch. 4 reporter Tom Sherwood was daring enough to do some "immersion reporting," hopping in for a spin around the block. With the lanky Sherwood crammed into the passenger's seat, there was no room for mayoral aide Veronica Washington, who had to wait on the curb until the mayor returned.
