Fenty hits campaign trail in final push

Standing on the median of Missouri Ave. Northwest during the Monday morning commute, Mayor Adrian Fenty pumped his fists, leaned into cars to greet drivers and joined more than two dozen campaign workers who chanted, "Four more years!"

It was the final pre-election day push before Tuesday's Democratic primary contest that pits Fenty against Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray.

Fenty appeared relaxed and energized, wearing a Redskins jersey over his dress shirt and high-fiving volunteers as he brought them together for a pep talk. The mayor compared the campaign to a marathon, saying that the last leg of a race was "no time to take it easy."

"We're going to run fast and hard," he said, surrounded by a gaggle of campaign supporters carrying green Fenty signs.
