Candidates in Tuesday's Democratic primary gathered at Judiciary Square for a "unity" news conference pulled together by the local committee.
Mayoral candidates Vincent C. Gray, Ernest Johnson, Sulaimon Brown and Leo Alexander all attended, but Fenty, who campaigned at the downtown government building earlier, did not join them.
Sean Madigan, a spokesman for Fenty, said the mayor was "focused on his own campaign."
Gray, D.C. Council chairman and Fenty's chief rival, used the event to promote his campaign, as did the other candidates.
Candidates for other offices, such as council chairman, delegate and ward council seats, also addressed the crowd.
