Free tickets for Gray inaugural ball

The box office opens again Tuesday for District residents who want to scoop up free tickets to Mayor-elect Vincent C. Gray's inaugural ball this Sunday.

It's an opportunity that should be hard to pass up for fans of go-go music godfather Chuck Brown and R&B crooner Raheen DeVaughn. Both local, Grammy-nominated musicians will perform at the celebration Sunday evening at the Walter E. Walter Convention Center.

City residents can pick up tickets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in room 145 at the convention center. Tickets will also be available same time Wednesday and Thursday. Residents must show valid District identification and are limited to two tickets each.

The black-tie ball, which will have free food and a cash bar, begins at 7 p.m. Sunday.Tickets are not required for inaugural activities earlier in the day, which include a prayer service and the swearing-in ceremony for Gray and other newly-elected officials. Cardinal Donald W. Wuerl will give the benediction and the invocation at the inauguration.
