Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray, chief challenger to Mayor Adrian M. Fenty in the Sept. 14 Democratic Party primary, continued to pick up endorsements Friday.
The Caribbean-American Political Action Committee announced its backing and, hours later, the Muslim Democratic Caucus of D.C. announced its support during a candidates forum at Howard Law School.
The Muslim caucus endorsement drew buzz late Friday because the group's president is Talib I. Karim, brother of Omar Karim, who is embroiled in controversy over recreation construction contracts in the District.
Fenty and Talib Karim attended Howard Law School at the same time. Fenty has said he met Omar Karim through Talib Karim.
In an e-mail, Talib Karim said the forum's highlights included Gray's "sincere remarks." He said "one certain elected official who likes to run a lot" did not attend. Fenty is a triathlete.
