Decision time is here. Maybe.
Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray (D) said he will decide next week whether he will give up his post to run against Mayor Adrian M. Fenty in the Democratic primary in September. Gray made his comments publicly Thursday on WPFW-FM.
In a brief interview with D.C. Wire on Wednesday, Gray said he and millionaire developer R. Donahue Peebles, another potential candidate, were in discussions. Gray said he believes there should be one main challenger to Fenty to make it a two-way contest.
Though several lesser-known candidates have filed to run against the mayor, Gray has name recognition and status and Peebles has promised to self-fund his campaign. That puts them each in a position to make a serious run against Fenty, who has raised nearly $4 million for his campaign.
Gray said he plans to have more discussions with Peebles over the weekend.
