D.C. Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray (D) and Council member Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) introduced a bill today that would change how charter schools are regulated. It would require members of the D.C. Public Charter School Board to live in the District, require a 15-month planning period of newly approved charter schools, and increase performance accountability requirements for charters. Part of this is clearly driven by the planned conversion of seven Catholic schools, which could add millions to the D.C. budget.
