Gray's House Broken Into While He Was Home

District Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray's house was burglarized early Monday morning while he was home, the chairman said today.

Gray said he must have been asleep during the break-in because he did not hear the boulder that came through his basement window. He lost a receiver from his stereo, which was in the basement, he said, but so far has discovered nothing else missing.

"I was asleep. I didn't hear a thing," Gray said. His home has an alarm system, he said, but the basement doesn't have a motion detector.

"It will now," said the chairman who lives in the Hillcrest neighborhood in Ward 7. He called the police immediately.

Gray discovered the burglarly around noon on Monday, when he went downstairs.

"The first thing I noticed was the sound," he said. "I could hear the traffic like the window was open."

He found a boulder and the blinds from the window on the floor.

"You feel violated," Gray said.
