D.C. Council member Phil Mendelson (D-At Large) will try to get local officials in neighboring Maryland and Virginia involved in the city's fight for voting rights in Congress.
Mendelson, president of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, will try to get his colleagues to sign on to a resolution that would declare support for the voting rights bill.
He will introduce the resolution at a regular meeting of the regional body tomorrow. Mendelson is also chairman of the D.C. Council Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary and has been vocal about efforts to attach an amendment to the D.C. vote bill that would take away the city's authority to regulate firearms.
