The Council of Governments Board of Directors unanimously approved a resolution today urging Congress to support a D.C. vote bill without an amendment attached that would strip the District of its authority to restrict firearms.
D.C. Council member Phil Mendelson (D-At Large) is president of the group known as COG and also chairman of the D.C. Council Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary. Local officials from the District, Maryland and Virginia are on the COG board.
"Support for D.C. voting rights has been a position of the COG Board for some time," said COG Board Chairman Penny Gross, who is also Vice Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, in a press release.
The COG board passed a similar resolution in 2007.
