The D.C. Tenants Advocacy Coalition, an organization that represents renters, has endorsed D.C. Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray over incumbent Adrian M. Fenty in the mayor's race.
TENAC's board of directors said in a statement they were supporting Gray because of his support for rent control, affordable housing and tenants' rights as well his interest in fighting for the "rights and interests of all in D.C." The group has also been critical of Fenty's proposals to eliminate the city's budget shortfall through budget cuts, joining other nonprofit and social service organizations in advocating for tax increases on the wealthy.
The group, which notes two-thirds of city households are renters, also endorsed Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D) over Douglass Sloan in the congressional race.
