Sekou Biddle picks up another endorsement

Hours after D.C. Council member Kwame Brown (D) endorsed his candidacy, Sekou Biddle snagged another high-profile supporter in his campaign for the vacant at-large seat on the D.C. Council.

Lorraine A. Green, who headed up Mayor Vincent C. Gray's transition team, announced today that she is supporting Biddle and will co-host a fundraiser for him at Ben's Chili Bowl on Tuesday night.

"From what I know of him and his accomplishments, I think he would be a very strong council member," Green said.

Green, a vice president at Amtrak, is one of Gray's closet advisers and friends. Gray is formally neutral in the race, but Green's involvement is another sign that Biddle may have the momentum heading into Thursday's D.C. Democratic State Committee endorsement vote.

The winner of that vote will be the official Democratic nominee for the vacant seat, which Brown gave up Sunday to become chairman.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Brown said Biddle would "bring substance and bring collaboration" to the council. Brown's father, Marshall, is another co-host of the fund-raiser.
