A feature in which D.C. Wire charts Mayor Adrian M. Fenty's quest for athletic glory.
Mayor Fenty started his day at the ACLI Capital Challenge, a long-running (pun intended) tradition in which the various branches of the federal government -- executive, legislative, judicial--compete, along with the media, in team running events. As a local pol, Fenty didn't qualify to be officially "scored" in the team competition, even though he reportedly had a bunch of colleagues and friends running with him. He was considered a "guest runner," said event organizer Jeff Darman.
Fenty blazed through the 3-mile course in 18 minutes, 7 seconds, a hair above 6-minute-mile pace. A distance runner and triathlete, Fenty probably barely broke a sweat on the speedy course through District streets. (Winner Brandon Cherry ran a 15:42.)
