Vincent Gray’s body man, Jason Cross, is moving on

D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray’s longtime body man and personal assistant, Jason Cross, has left the mayor and is now working in the office of Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development.

Cross has worked for Gray (D) since shortly after Gray was elected mayor in 2010. Serving under the official title “confidential assistant,” Cross traveled with the mayor at all times during official business.

Pedro Ribeiro, a Gray spokesman, said Cross was ready for a change.

“He’s been there over a year and it’s a tough job,” Ribeiro said. “You work a lot of Saturdays and weekends.”

Gray has tapped Ward 1 Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Sedrick Muhammad as Cross’s replacement, Ribeiro said. Muhammad previously worked as Gray’s Ward 1 community liaison.

Cross will be a project manager at DMPED who focuses on real estate development, officials said. In 2010, Cross helped Gray raise money from young professionals in the District.

Tim Craig is The Post’s bureau chief in Pakistan. He has also covered conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and within the District of Columbia government.
