Accident closes eastbound 11th Street Bridge

6:20 p.m. Update: Police report that the bridge has reopened.

Original post: A single-vehicle accident forced authorities to close the 11th Street Bridge headed to I-295 and snarled Friday’s evening commute in Southeast Washington, D.C. police said.

Authorities began investigating the accident on the eastbound span of the bridge about 5:30 p.m., said Officer Paul Metcalf, a police spokesman. One woman suffered minor injuries in the crash and police are investigating if she may have had a medical emergency before the crash.

Officials are trying to reroute traffic in the area, but heavy delays are expected.
