Air defense officials intercept plane

Two F-16 fighters intercepted a small plane that was out of radio contact in the area around Washington Wednesday afternoon, according to air defense officials.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command, which protects the United States and Canada from air attacks, says the civilian plane was intercepted at just after noon. The aircraft reestablished communications and was allowed to continue on its way, officials said.
