Another wet and rainy commute

8:45 A.M. Update:

Police activity in the 400 block of P Street in Northwest Washington could cause traffic problems, so avoid that area right now. (The Metropolitan Police Department tweeted that they are responding to a suspicious package there.)

There’s an accident at 17th Street and Constitution Avenue in Northwest Washington, and you can also expect this to cause delays.

Westbound I-66 remains backed up approaching the Beltway, where two lanes were closed earlier this morning by an accident.

There are also delays on eastbound I-66 at the Beltway and again at the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge.

A downed tree is still blocking northbound Georgia Avenue at Brookeville Road in Brookeville.

8:20 A.M. Update:

Traffic signals are reportedly flashing at the following spots:

— 1st and K streets NE

— Piney Branch Road and Aspen Street NW

— 18th Street, Varnum Street and Michigan Avenue NE

— 14th Street and Florida Avenue NW

An accident at Florida and Trinidad avenues in Northeast Washington could cause delays, so avoid that intersection if possible.

The D.C. Fire Department is responding to a fire in the 3200 block of Mount Pleasant Street NW, avoid that area.

An accident at Georgia Avenue and Tuckerman Street in Northwest Washington could slow traffic there.

And there’s also an accident at 20th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Northwest Washington.

8:10 A.M. Update:

All lanes have reopened on westbound I-66 at the Beltway.

7:50 A.M. Update:

Delays continue to build on westbound I-66 approaching the Beltway. The right two lanes remain blocked on I-66 West at this spot.

A vehicle fire on eastbound U.S. 50 at Ardwick Ardmore Road could slow traffic there.

A downed tree is blocking northbound Georgia Avenue at Brookeville Road in Brookeville. If you need to head north from Olney, try taking Olney Laytonsville Road northwest and cutting over (on Damascus Road, for instance, where you can reconnect with Georgia Avenue and head north again).

7:30 A.M. Update:

The accident on MD 295 North at Powder Mill Road has been cleared.

The accident on westbound I-66 at the Beltway is still blocking the right center lane and right lane.

An accident on I-95 North just north of Woodbridge is blocking the right lane.

7:15 A.M. Update:

An accident on MD 295 North at Powder Mill Road could slow traffic there.

An accident on westbound I-66 at the Beltway is blocking the right center lane and right lane.

Eastbound I-66 is absolutely snarled at the Beltway, with very heavy delays approaching this spot. Avoid this roadway if at all possible.

An accident on southbound I-395 before Glebe Road is blocking the right shoulder.

6:50 A.M. Update:

The accident on the outer loop of the Beltway between Rockville Pike and Connecticut Avenue has been cleared and all lanes reopened.

The accident on westbound U.S. 50 at the exit for Martin Luther King Jr. Highway/MD 704 just outside the Beltway has also been cleared and all lanes reopened.

6:30 A.M. Update:

The accident on the outer loop of the Beltway between Rockville Pike and Connecticut Avenue is now only blocking one lane and one of the shoulders.

An accident on westbound U.S. 50 at the exit for Martin Luther King Jr. Highway/MD 704 just outside the Beltway is blocking one lane and one of the shoulders.

An accident on I-95 in Lorton is blocking the left shoulder of the reversible lanes.

Original Post:

Good morning, commuters! We’re in for another wet and stormy trek into workthis morning. The flash flood watch has been extended and showers are possible through the morning, according to the Capital Weather Gang. Add some extra time to your commute, because as we saw yesterday, rain invariably causes delays.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the roads and rails this morning, reporting any delays or issues. We will need your help: If you hear about any congestion, delays, problems or anything at all, tell us in the comments section below or by tweeting @drgridlock.

So far:
