Authorities: Va. train derailment was intentional

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Authorities say a weekend derailment involving a Norfolk Southern train in Southside Virginia was intentional.

Media outlets report no one was injured in Saturday night’s derailment near the Martinsville Speedway.

Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry says the derailment occurred after an object was placed on the tracks.

The train was hauling agricultural products. The locomotive derailed but most of its cars didn’t.
