South Capitol Street and I-295 fully open

8:35 A.M. Update:

An accident on Connecticut Avenue and Garfield Road NW will cause some delays. Avoid that area if possible.

The accident on northbound Allentown Road/MD 337 is still blocking two northbound lanes at Branch Avenue.

8:20 A.M. Update:

An accident on Wisconsin Avenue and Fessenden Street NW could cause delays.

There’s also an accident on McKinley Street and Nebraska Avenue NW.

Traffic signals are reportedly flashing on Reno Road and Van Ness Street NW.

8:05 A.M. Update:

The accident on westbound U.S. 50 after Collington Road has been cleared and the lanes reopened.

The accident on I-270 North at Quince Orchard Road has also been cleared.

Watch out for delays stemming from accidents on 24th Street and New Hampshire Avenue NW and on the 1600 block of Massachusetts Avenue NW.

7:45 A.M. Update:

An accident on I-270 North at Quince Orchard Road could cause some major headaches there.

7:30 A.M. Update:

The accident on U.S. 50 West at the outer loop of the Beltway has been cleared from one of the right westbound off-ramps.

An accident on westbound U.S. 50 after Collington Road is blocking one lane and one of the shoulders.

7:25 A.M. Update:

The right lane has reopened on southbound I-295 over South Capitol Street. All lanes have now reopened after the closures earlier this morning.

7:15 A.M. Update:

The accident on northbound Allentown Road/MD 337 is still blocking two northbound lanes at Branch Avenue.

An accident on U.S. 50 West at the outer loop of the Beltway is still blocking one of the right westbound off-ramps.

An accident on the 2300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE could cause some problems.

7:05 A.M. Update:

Southbound South Capitol Street has reopened under I-295. The right lane remains blocked on southbound I-295 over South Capitol Street, while the left lane is open. Stay left and expect delays if you’re heading this way.

6:55 A.M. Update:

The problem on I-295 over South Capitol Street stems from a pothole or hole in the bridge deck, said John Lisle, spokesman for the District Department of Transportation. The issue is on the southbound side of I-295 over South Capitol Street. Northbound South Capitol Street remains open, while southbound South Capitol Street is closed.

This isn’t expected to last through the entire morning, but expect headaches and delays around this area to last a while.

6:45 A.M. Update:

An accident on U.S. 50 West at the outer loop of the Beltway is blocking one of the right westbound off-ramps.

A disabled vehicle in the 1400 block of H Street NE could cause delays.

There’s also a disabled vehicle in the 800 block of Bladensburg Road NE.

6:25 A.M. Update:

The work on I-295 near South Capitol Street is due to a crew placing a steel plate on southbound I-295, according to the District Departmen of Transportation. On I-295 South, the left lane is open and the right lane remains closed.

An accident on Kenilworth Avenue and East Capitol Street in Northeast Washington could slow traffic there.

The accident on northbound Allentown Road/MD 337 is now blocking two northbound lanes at Branch Avenue. One lane has reopened.

The disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway at University Avenue has been cleared from the shoulder.

Good morning, commuters! All that nice weather from the weekend sticks around for the beginning of the work week, according to the Capital Weather Gang. So far:

South Capitol Street is temporarily closed under I-295 as crews work on making temporary repairs, according to the District Department of Transportation. On the I-295 South bridge deck, the right lane is closed over South Capitol Street. I-295 South is down to just one lane over South Capitol Street. Avoid this area.

A disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway at University Avenue is blocking one of the shoulders.

An accident on northbound Allentown Road/MD 337 is blocking all northbound lanes at Branch Avenue.
