Capital Bikeshare stations open on the Mall

The omnipresent red Capital Bikeshare bikes have finally found a home on the National Mall.

Two homes, to be precise. A pair of Bikeshare stations were installed on the National Mall on Friday morning, just in time for the crowds drawn in by the cherry blossoms.

The stations are located at:

• Ohio and West Basin drives SW (near the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial)

• Jefferson Drive between 14th and 15th streets SW (south of the Washington Monument)

Capital Bikeshare tweeted a picture of the Jefferson Drive station shortly before noon on Friday and shared a photo of the other station an hour later.

Five stations have been approved for the Mall by the National Capital Planning Commission. The next three stations will be near the Smithsonian Metro stop, the Jefferson Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial.

Four of the five stations will have 23 bikes, while the station near the Lincoln Memorial will have 25 bikes.
