Colesville Road reopens after accident investigation

10:35 A.M. Update: Colesville Road has reopened in both directions following an accident investigation stemming from a crash overnight Monday.

According to the Post’s Justin Jouvenal, three people were injured when the driver of a Montgomery County police cruiser collided with another car as the officer was responding to a call in Silver Spring, police said.

Jouvenal reported that the officer and two passengers in the other car were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The crash occurred just before midnight on Colesville Road, near the intersection of Sligo Creek Parkway.

8:40 A.M. Update: Colesville Road remains blocked in Silver Spring due to an accident on Monday night. Southbound Colesville Road is a mess approaching the Beltway, with delays stretching back to Stewart Lane. Avoid that area and head for Georgia Avenue instead.

The lanes have reopened on eastbound I-66 at the Beltway, with only the shoulder blocked right now. There are still heavy backups approaching that area due to the earlier accident, so anticipate delays.

8:15 A.M. Update:

An accident on eastbound I-66 at the Beltway is blocking the left center lane, right center lane and right lane. Expect major, major delays, as traffic can only get by in the left lane.

The sink hole is in the left curb lane of L Street, reports the District Department of Transportation. Repairs are underway.

7:55 A.M. Update:

There’s sink hole on L Street between 12th and 13th streets in Northwest Washington, according to the District Department of Transportation. Nothing yet on the size or impact on traffic, but I’d avoid that block if possible.

7:45 A.M. Update:

An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway at Braddock Road is blocking one of the shoulders.

There’s also an accident involving a tractor trailer, blocking the right shoulder of the ramp from Georgetown Pike/VA 193 to the outer loop.

7:25 A.M. Update:

Colesville Road remains closed in Silver Spring due to the accident shortly before midnight on Monday night. Southbound Colesville Road is incredibly backed up at Lockwood Drive and University Boulevard, while northbound traffic doesn’t appear to be impacted.

I-66 East is heavily backed up approaching Nutley Street.

7:05 A.M. Update:

There are delays on I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge, Seminary Road and Duke Street.

6:50 A.M. Update:

A water main break has closed northbound Chain Bridge Road between Flint Hill Road and Nutley Street, according to WTOP.

I-66 East is snarled around Chain Bridge Road right now.

The inner loop of the Beltway is also congested around Gallows Road.

6:20 A.M. Update:

There are heavy delays on I-95 North approaching the Fairfax County Parkway.

Original Post:

Good morning, commuters! We’ll be keeping tabs on any headaches, issues or problems we hear about on the roads this morning. Make sure to tell us about anything you see out there — either in the comments below or via Twitter (@DrGridlock).

Colesville Road is blocked in both directions between Leighton Avenue and Sligo Creek Parkway in Silver Spring.

The roadway is closed due to an accident involving a police officer and another car that occurred shortly before midnight on Monday, according to the Montgomery County Police. They hope to reopen the road by 8 a.m.

Commuters who normally use that route should try taking Georgia Avenue or University Boulevard instead.
