Discounted Amtrak tickets to Charlottesville

Amtrak has joined up with the Presidents Passport, a travel program promoting tourism in and around Charlottesville that includes deals for restaurants, hotels and historic sites.

If you sign up at Prespassport.Monticello.org and buy one round-trip Amtrak ticket to Charlottesville, you can save 40 percent on a second ticket. The fine print: This promotion is on sale now through Dec. 14; you have to book at least three days before traveling; and it’s only good for Northeast Regional trains 147, 171 and 145 (heading south) and trains 176 and 156 (heading north).

There are other blackout dates and restrictions, so make sure to see if it works for you before arranging your vacation around this deal.
