Free bus trips in Ride On annual food drive

Ride On passengers can get free trips by donating canned and nonperishable food in the Montgomery County bus service’s annual food drive, which began Sunday.

Collection bags are being placed near the fare boxes on buses for the Give and Ride promotion. Donations will be valued at the regular fare rate of $1.70, officials said. Transfers will require an additional donation.

The food will be donated to the Manna Food Center, which feeds 3,000 families a month, county officials said.

“This annual food drive helps us to restock our shelves at a time when more residents than even before are turning to Manna for help feeding their families,” Kim Damion, executive director for Manna, said in a statement.

The drive is also collecting children’s items, such as disposable diapers.

Residents who aren’t using the bus service can give donations to bus operators at any bus stop. The drive lasts through Saturday.
