Hampton Park Blvd. in Prince George’s partly closed by water main break

A water main broke on the 500 block of Hampton Park Boulevard in the Capitol Heights area, forcing the closure of the roadway between Edgeworth Drive and Hampton Overlook Place.

Lyn Riggins, a spokeswoman for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, said the 35-year-old pipe broke around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. WSSC crews stopped the water from flowing around 11:30 a.m., she said.

About 27 customers are without water and, Riggins said, it is unclear at this point when their service will be restored.

In January, a 54-inch main broke in the same area and shut down the inner loop of the Capital Beltway for hours, forced the closure of a federal agency and requiring WSSC to issue a boil-water order for hundreds of thousands of customers.

“This is within sitting distance of the 54-inch main that broke, but this is a 20-inch and it’s not connected to that. These are two different mains,” Riggins said.
