Accidents snarl Va. Capital Beltway

8:45 A.M. Update

The earlier accidents on I-495 South, one between Route 7 and I-66, and one at the Dulles Toll Road, have both been cleared. However, delays remain and traffic backs up into Maryland.

8:20 A.M. Update

An accident is being reported on I-495 N. at the American Legion bridge in Maryland. Traffic is backed up to River Road.

8 A.M. Update

An accident is tying up the I-495 South at the Dulles Toll Road in Virginia. Traffic slows before Georgetown Pike. Traffic gets by single file to the right.

7:40 A.M. Update

An accident is blocking the left shoulder and three lanes on I-495 South before I-66. Only one lane gets by. Expect delays.

7:20 A.M. Update

An accident is tying up I-495 South in Maryland between the Greenbelt Metro station and Route 1/College Park. Traffic slows before Route 1.

An accident is blocking the left shoulder of I-9 North in Lorton.

7 A.M. Update

The earlier accident on I-95 North has cleared, but backups remain.

Traffic lights are out on Dumfries Road at Bristow Road in Prince William County. Expect delays.

6:40 A.M. Update

Virginia just seems to get busier this morning. The right shoulder of Route 123 North at the Capital Beltway is closed due to a tractor trailer accident. Expect possible delays.

On I-95 North, traffic now backs up to Woodbridge due to an earlier crash at the Capital Beltway in the Springfield area.

6:20 A.M. Update

In Virginia, the left lane and shoulder are closed on I-95 North at the Capital Beltway in Springfield. Traffic slows before Newington.

The earlier accident on I-66 East has been cleared.

Good morning, commuters,

We’ll be tracking the morning commute and any traffic issues that come up. Nearly 1,800 motorcycles will roar into town Friday afternoon for a tribute remembering the victims of the Sep. 11 terrorist attacks.

Major commuter routes and roads will be affected in Maryland and Virginia.
