Inner loop reopens at Ritchie Marlboro Road

11:50 A.M. Update:

The inner loop lane has reopened, so all lanes have now reopened on the inner and outer loops at Ritchie Marlboro Road. One shoulder remains blocked in each direction.

11:25 A.M. Update:

All lanes have reopened on the outer loop at Ritchie Marlboro Road. Only one lane remains closed on the inner loop, as well as one of the shoulders in each direction.

11:05 A.M. Update:

Two lanes have reopened on the inner loop of the Beltway at Ritchie Marlboro Road. Two lanes are now open and two lanes blocked in each direction as authorities continue investigating the fatal accident from earlier this morning.

8:35 A.M. Update:

The inner loop remains blocked at Ritchie Marlboro Road due to the fatal accident earlier this morning. Two lanes are closed on the outer loop at the same spot.

Florida Avenue remains blocked in both directions at Eckington Place in Northeast Washington.

The accident on eastbound I-66 before the Beltway is still blocking the right lane and right shoulder.

Traffic signals are reportedly still flashing at 14th and Irving streets in Northwest Washington.

Florida Avenue remains closed at Eckington Place in Northeast Washington.

8:05 A.M. Update:

Two lanes have reopened again on the outer loop of the Beltway. So we’re back to where we were a short time ago: The inner loop is closed due to the accident investigation, while two of the outer loop lanes remain blocked.

8 A.M. Update:

The outer loop of the Beltway has closed again near Ritchie Marlboro Road. The Beltway is again shut down in both directions there.

Traffic signals are reportedly flashing at 14th and Irving streets in Northwest Washington.

7:40 A.M. Update:

Florida Avenue remains blocked in both directions at Eckington Place in Northeast Washington.

An accident on southbound I-295 is blocking the exit ramp for East Capitol Street, according to the District Department of Transportation.

There’s also an accident in the 400 block of Washington Avenue in Southwest Washington.

7:25 A.M. Update:

The inner loop of the Beltway remains blocked due to a fatal accident that briefly shut down the Beltway in both directions earlier this morning. It appears that a car on the outer loop of the Beltway drove onto the inner loop at about 6:30 a.m., resulting in a multi-vehicle accident, said Mark Brady, a spokesman for the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS.

Two people are dead and two people have been taken to area hospitals with serious but non-life threatening injuries, Brady said.

The inner loop of the Beltway will remain closed while police conduct their investigation. It’s possible it could remain closed through the morning rush hour, so avoid that area.

7:20 A.M. Update:

The inner loop remains closed at Ritchie Marlboro Road. Two outer loop lanes have reopened, while two outer loop lanes remain blocked.

7:15 A.M. Update:

All lanes remain blocked on the inner and outer loops of the Beltway at Ritchie Marlboro Road.

Florida Avenue is still closed at Eckington Place in Northeast Washington due to an earlier accident. Justin Jouvenal has more on the accident at Crime Scene.

7:10 A.M. Update:

The Beltway lane closures stem from an accident involving multiple cars on the inner loop of the Beltway, according to the Maryland State Police. The accident took place at around 6:30 a.m., according to the police.

7 A.M. Update:

The Beltway is completely closed at Ritchie Marlboro Road due to the accidents earlier this morning. Expect major, major delays, and avoid the Beltway if possible.

6:45 A.M. Update:

Accidents are reported in both directions on the Capital Beltway near Ritchie Marlboro Road.

An accident on the inner loop of the Beltway south of Ritchie Marlboro Road is blocking three of four inner loop lanes and one of the shoulders.

An accident on the outer loop in the same area is blocking three of four outer loop lanes.

6:20 A.M. Update:

An accident on southbound I-95 at the Fairfax County Parkway is blocking the right shoulder and could cause some congestion there.

6:13 A.M. Update:

An accident at Florida Avenue and Eckington Place in Northeast Washington has closed Florida Avenue in both directions. Avoid the area, because it’s going to cause a lot of delays.

Westbound Florida Avenue is being diverted onto eastbound New York Avenue, while eastbound Florida Avenue is being diverted onto First Street.

There are already some delays on I-66 East at the Beltway. Multiple lanes were closed on eastbound I-66 earlier this morning, and even though they have already reopened there’s still heavy congestion.
