Big delays on I-95 North in VA

8:45 A.M. Update:

An accident on southbound I-270 between Montrose and Old Georgetown roads is blocking one lane and one of the shoulders.

There are still delays on I-95 North, but things appear to have eased a bit. Traffic is moving as you approach the Beltway; it’s not moving terribly quickly or anything, but it’s something.

8:25 A.M. Update:

Now it appears traffic is moving again in both directions on New York Avenue. There are some reasonably bad delays for eastbound traffic. We have a call into the D.C. Fire Department and will report anything we find out.

8:20 A.M. Update:

The accident on southbound New Hampshire Avenue south of Lockwood Drive in White Oak has been cleared.

There’s a car fire reported on New York Avenue at Bladensburg Road in Northeast, which appears to be blocking westbound New York Avenue. Expect big headaches in this area.

8 A.M. Update:

There are still very, very big delays on I-95 North, stemming from an accident earlier this morning that blocked multiple lanes on the roadway.

Traffic is also slow on I-395 North around Washington Boulevard and King Street.

The accident on southbound New Hampshire Avenue south of Lockwood Drive in White Oak is still blocking one southbound lane and one of the shoulders.

7:40 A.M. Update:

And now the accident on southbound New Hampshire Avenue is blocking one southbound lane and one of the shoulders again.

The backups on I-95 North approaching the Springfield Interchange have actually improved slightly. There are still bad delays, but not as bad as earlier this morning.

Separately, a disabled vehicle on I-95 North at the Prince William Parkway is blocking the center lane, adding to delays for traffic heading through Dale City.

7:23 A.M. Update:

The accident on southbound New Hampshire Avenue south of Lockwood Drive in White Oak is now just blocking one of the southbound shoulders. The regular lanes have reopened.

7:10 A.M. Update:

The regular traffic lanes have all reopened on I-95 North before the Springfield Interchange. The right shoulder is still blocked, and there are still massive delays stretching back to Dale City.

6:55 A.M. Update:

The accident on I-95 North is now just blocking the left center lane and right center lane. Traffic is getting by on the far left or far right lanes. There are massive backups leading to this spot, so expect big delays.

An accident on southbound New Hampshire Avenue south of Lockwood Drive in White Oak is blocking one southbound lane and one of the shoulders.

6:37 A.M. Update:

There was a disabled vehicle on the inner loop of the Beltway at the Little River Turnpike, but it has been cleared. Some residual delays might remain in that spot.

And a disabled vehicle on westbound I-66 near Chain Bridge Road has also been cleared. Again, there could be some residual delays for traffic heading that way.

6:27 A.M. Update:

An accident on I-95 North shortly before the Springfield Interchange is blocking the left center lane, right center lane, right lane and right shoulder. Traffic is only getting by on the far left, and there are already pretty bad backups.

Original Post:

Good morning, commuters! We’re actually in for a nice, sunny and breezy spring day, according to the Capital Weather Gang. Enjoy it while you can, because there will be showers tomorrow.

So far:

I-95 North is already very backed up approaching Woodbridge.
